Play it safe everyday
Use natural gas safely
More people are using natural gas today because it has been consistently less expensive than electricity for water heating, cooking and clothes drying.
MGE urges you to always use natural gas safely.
Stay flexible with your appliances. Periodically check the flexible connectors
used behind large gas appliances. Stiffness from age or frequent moving could lead to cracks in flexible connectors, causing gas leaks. If you suspect damage or smell gas, call (608) 252-1111 immediately.
Smoke detectors are great, but...be sure you also have a carbon monoxide detector in your home for added safety and peace of mind. Install at least one carbon monoxide detector in your home, preferably on each floor or in each hallway. It is also important to:
• Place a UL-approved detector on a wall near a sleeping area, usually in the hallway between bedrooms.
• Test each unit regularly. Many units have an indicator light and/or a test beep.
