Season's 'greenings'
Get ready for spring's projects
The coming of spring brings us outdoors and into the season's many projects. Be sure those projects include safety practices with every step.
Safety saves lives. It only takes a brief encounter with electrical current, for example, to cause injury or even death.
Include the following among your spring safety practices:
Call Diggers Hotline before you dig. At least three working days before you start a project that involves digging or work near overhead lines, call 1-800-242-8511.
• Underground power lines are located and marked. Participating utilities and municipalities then mark the location of any underground lines on your property. Digging into a line can be both expensive and dangerous: notify Diggers Hotline before you assume that risk.
• Overhead clearances are checked for safety, too. If overhead lines are an issue, participating utilities will call you to indicate the clearances needed to ensure your safety.

Use electricity and power equipment carefully. Be sure your equipment is in safe working condition, that wires are not exposed or frayed and your tools are approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
