Interactive guide for choosing trees and shrubs
As a community energy company, MGE works with organizations that protect and enhance community forestry. We take extra effort to protect the trees in our service area and try to teach people proper tree selection, planting and care around utility equipment.
Arbor Day projects
- We support Arbor Day each year through involvement in tree planting and other activities benefiting the community.
- Typical MGE Arbor Day projects include tree planting in a neighborhood redevelopment project, on the grounds of a middle school or along a river in a Madison park.
Tree Line USA utility
- MGE has been awarded the Tree Line USA award every year since 1998.
- Awarded by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters.
- Awarded for MGE practices that protect and enhance our urban forests through:
- Quality tree care.
- Annual worker training.
- Tree planting.
- Public education.
Trees for Tomorrow
- An independent, nonprofit natural resource specialty school.
- Uses a combination of field studies and classroom presentations.
- Teaches conservation values and demonstrates the benefits of contemporary resource management.
- MGE has supported this program for decades and currently serves on the board of directors.
- We provide scholarships for local students and teachers to attend workshops at this unique campus.
Dane County Tree Board
- Committed to bringing information to Dane County citizens about preserving and protecting trees.
- MGE helped establish the Dane County Tree Board and continues to be a significant member.
Wisconsin Arborist Association
- Organization of professional arborists in Wisconsin.
- MGE plays an active role.
- MGE forester, Scott Nelson, is past-president of the organization.
